Clothing- Men

During the early part of the decade, men’s suits were modified to create the image of a large torso. Shoulders were squared using wadding or shoulder pads and sleeves were tapered to the wrist. 


This period also showed a rise in the popularity of the double-breasted suit. Masculine elegance demanded jackets with long, broad lapels, two, four, six or even eight buttons, square shoulders. Generous-cut, long trousers completed the look. These suits appeared in charcoal, steel or speckled gray, slate, navy and midnight blue.

For men  this was a new era of fashion in the sense that, whereas before, little changes were made to men's fashion over shorter amounts of time, now was an era where the industry had a new realization: The more often they change details, the more often men had to go out and buy new clothes. The breasted jacket was a new look for the early part of the decade, and broad plaid was a popular style. Double breasted suits came back, along with a shorter jacket cut, in the decade's later years.
